ABOUT THE CLUB

Welcome to the Homepage of the Stour Valley Search and
Recovery Club.

We are a group of metal detecting enthusiasts based in Dorset.
We hold regular club meetings on the last Thursday of every
month and hold weekly field meetings every Saturday.

The club was founded in 1984 and a number of the founder members are still members. Membership is limited to 25 members at any one time and members must live within 25 miles of Blandford. Notable members are Dr Ken Wheatley who has written many articles in Searcher on various subjects and the late Bernard Yarosz who found   The Bowleaze Jewel                              The Bowleaze Jewel is now on display in the British Museum.  Three club members assisted the Wareham and District Archaeology and Local History Society in recovering the Bestwall Hoard at Wareham in 1994. Magazine articles have been authored by Julian Adams, Ken Wheatley, Jack Loveland and John House in the Searcher and Treasure Hunting.

The club has a charity fund and regularly donates to deserving local charities.
Members of the club abide by the Code of Conduct of the NCMD and are covered by insurance to carry out the hobby.

Past members who no longer subscribe to the club may be offered the status of "FRIENDS OF THE CLUB" and as such can attend club meetings.  They cannot vote on club matters or attend field meetings.

The club actively supports the Dorset Metal Detecting Liaison Group and regularly meets with Claire Pinder, Senior Archaeologist for Dorset, and Ciorstaidth Hayward Trevarthen,  The Finds Liaison Officer for Dorset and Somerset.

The club currently has no vacancies for membership.
